Have Chronic Back Pain? How A Chiropractor Can Help Relieve Your Pain

Timothy Byrd

If you have chronic back pain, there are a variety of treatment options available to help relieve your pain. One of these options is to see a chiropractor, which can help you in a variety of ways. Keep reading to learn more about this so you can start feeling less pain in your back.

Spinal Manipulation

A common treatment a chiropractor uses to treat chronic back pain is spinal manipulation. The chiropractor will first ask you where you are feeling the pain. You will then lie on a table, much like a massage table, and the chiropractor uses their hands to apply pressure to the back joints and spine where the pain is located. This not only helps with pain but also helps improve range of motion, such as when you bend over, twist around, etc.

Manual Therapy

Another type of treatment is known as manual therapy. The chiropractor may use this along with spinal manipulation. Manual therapy includes things like trigger point therapy, massaging the back, and myofascial release. This treatment is used to reduce how much tension you feel in your back muscles, as well as the tendons around your back spine and ligaments.

Exercises

There are a variety of exercises you can do to strengthen your back muscles. Because you are in a lot of pain, the chiropractor will start you out slowly. As you heal, they will increase the number of exercises you do. The chiropractor will show you how to do the exercises and then ask you to do them at home. They will tell you how many times you should do these weekly. Strengthening your back can help reduce the chances of you getting a back injury in the future.

 Counseling

Along with the above therapies, the chiropractor may provide nutritional and lifestyle counseling to help you manage your chronic back pain. They will ask you how you sleep as sleeping in certain positions can hurt your back. For example, lying on your side in the fetal position is a great sleep position to help reduce pain while you are sleeping. You can buy a mattress that allows you to recline it as sleeping in a reclining position puts less pressure on your back. Sleeping with a pillow between your legs is another option to help. The chiropractor may suggest certain types of foods that can help with back pain.

Focusing On My Back Injuries

A few months ago, I realized that it was getting progressively more difficult to move around like I used to. Lifting was a chore, sleeping was difficult, and bending over was absolutely grueling. My back hurt when I did just about anything, so I decided to seek help. I contacted a chiropractor in my area for help, and it was amazing how helpful the chiropractor was. I was able to get in for an appointment the same day, and my problems melted away as the doctor worked on my back. My blog details my journey, so that you can see how helpful the right care can be.
